Management Framework

LG Display is committed to developing products designed with environmental considerations. These products include energy-saving products, durability-enhanced products that extend product lifespan, and products applying the 3R principles (Recycled, Reduce, Replace). To assess the overall environmental impact of its products, we conduct LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and obtain environmental certifications based on the results.

Product Environmental Impact Evaluation

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) of Products

LG Display introduced LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) in 2021 and, in accordance with the ISO 14040 (Principles and Framework for Life Cycle Assessment), evaluates environmental impacts across six impact categories: global warming, resource depletion, ozone depletion, acidification, eutrophication, and photochemical smog. In 2022, we expanded the scope of our LCA to cover 22% of our sold products, and by 2023, this figure had increased to 40%. In 2024, LG Display established an LCA system to reduce assessment time and improve data accuracy, expanding the scope to cover 61.9% of its sold products. In 2025, we completed LCA assessments for 68% of our sold products, further expanding the scope. The assessment results are utilized in environmental impact analysis at each stage, as well as in the development of process technologies and eco-friendly materials, thereby fostering a sustainable environment for the production of eco-friendly products.

Product Hazardous Substance Management

LG Display has established and operates a hazardous substance management program and process to develop and manufacture products that are not harmful to humans or the environment. We will continue to proactively respond to changes in domestic and international regulations related to hazardous substances and strive to manufacture products that are safe for humans and the environment.

Framework

LG Display operates a “Product Hazardous Substance Framework” that classifies hazardous substances into four levels—Level A-I, A-II, B-I, and B-II—to effective management. In addition to substances prohibited by global product hazardous substance regulations, we designate substances that are harmful to humans and the environment as Level B and focusing our efforts on voluntary hazardous substance reduction activities by developing alternative technologies and parts and applying them to products. Going forward, we plan to continue our voluntary reduction activities to progressively reduce and eliminate such non-regulated hazardous substances.
Classification and Framework for Hazardous Substances
  1. Level A-I
    • 10 substances specified by EU RoHS1) regulation and substances prohibited by certain customers, including lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and compounds, PBB, PBDE, 4 types2) of phthalates, brominated flame retardants, and chlorine-based flame retardants.
  2. Level A-II
    • Substances prohibited by laws and conventions other than Level A-I. Substances prohibited by customers, including PCBs, PCNs, asbestos, organotin compounds, ozone depleting substances, etc.
  3. Level B-I
    • Substances that are voluntarily replaced over a certain period of time
      (volatile organic compounds, RoHS exemption substances, etc.)
  4. Level B-II
    • Substances that are currently permitted for use but are expected to be banned in the future (e.g., REACH high-risk candidate substances)
1) RoHS (The Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) : A regulation that restricts the use of 10 hazardous substances (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr+6, PBB, PBDE, 4 types of Phthalate) in electrical and electronic products 2) 4 Phthalates: Additives used to make plastics softer and more flexible. These substances are known to cause endocrine disruption (environmental hormone effects) and reproductive toxicity. Examples include DEHP, DBP, BBP, and DIBP.

Management Process

To comply with domestic and overseas product environmental regulations such as the EU RoHS1) and REACH2), which restrict the use of specific hazardous substances, as well as customer requirements regarding hazardous substances in products, LG Display has established a more robust hazardous substance management process by proactively identifying and replacing potential risk factors. This process operates through a total of four Gate stages, ranging from the supplier registration stage to the mass production stage. Hazard assessments are conducted at each stage, and based on these results, we ensure that all products comply with domestic and overseas regulations. In the future, we will continue our efforts to proactively respond to changes in domestic and overseas laws and regulations regarding hazardous substances to create products that are safe for people and the environment.
※LG Display systematically operates a hazardous substance management program. Based on lists of substances classified as hazardous by regulatory authorities around the world, we conduct risk assessments for products under development and in mass production. As a result of these assessments, the proportion of revenue generated from products containing restricted substances listed in Annex XVII of the EU REACH Regulation was confirmed to be 0% of total revenue. We continuously update the scope of managed substances in response to evolving regulatory requirements and transparently disclose the status of hazardous substance management and substitution activities.
